Description:

Early Ptolemaic map showing Persia between Persian Gulf and Caspian Sea. From the Latin 1571 edition of Strabo's Geographia, with maps by Sebastian Munster which appeared in Ptolemy's Geographia as early as 1540. Shows Persia and Babylonia from the Arabian desert in the south west to the Oxus River in the north east. Coordinates approximate (based on Greenwich meridian). Latitudinal and longitudinal lines. Pictorial relief. Includes lists of cities by region, latitudinal locations in right margin. Shows waterways, cities (some illustrated), islands. Verso title followed by text, table of cities, "Habet diem maximum," "Distat ab Alexandria uersus ortum." Pages 483-485.
