[Atlas Factice of Early Dutch Maps]
- Description:
- A composite atlas containing 62 maps. Title supplied by cataloger. Handwritten Arabic notes on some maps. No title page. Text includes portions from Waghenaer's Spieghel Der Zeevardt (perhaps 1589 ed.) and Barents' Caertboeck van de Midlantsche Zee (probably 1st ed., 1595). Maps # 3, 5, 8 9, 10 & 12 thru 46 are from Waghenaer's Spieghel (mostly state C). Maps 1, 4 (two halves), 6, 7 & 9 are from Barents' Caertboek. Maps #1 & 47 thru 61 encompass maps which were separately publlished (#1 Lodewijcksz-Java sea). Maps # 47, 48 50, & 54 are Linschoten maps (occ sep published. #s 51 & 53 are Tatton maps ( Central-N. Amer, Pacific). # 60 is the polar map of Barents.The rest, of extra-European areas, are "Plancius" maps thought to be derived from Lasso. Map titles in Latin and Dutch.
