- Description:
- California with two northern bays and numerous place names. Shirley 622 (Plate 427). by R: en G: Wetstein. The Great Lakes are complete. To the west of the Great Lakes is the Moingona River which begins in the northwest with two large lakes. The routes of many explorers are traced including Hudson, Halley, Magellan, and Dampier. Four inset maps at top include north and south pole projections, and the western and eastern hemispheres. The north polar projection and western hemisphere maps show California as an island. Title cartouche at top center with two angels. Engraved by J. Keyser, Sculpcit. (lower right). Small text at upper right outside border, unreadable on copy seen. Map a derivative of Mortier’s map dated 1700 (Entry 1000).
