- CARTE GÉNÉRALE DES PARTIES CONNUES DU GLOBLE
- Description:
- California with two deep northern bays. Numerous points are named, and the area between the island and the continent is dotted with small islands. Map uses a Mercator projection. Five circles sit above it and show, from left to right, Night and Day, the world without water, the phases of the moon, and the western and eastern hemispheres. California is also shown as an island in the small western hemisphere map. Map based upon Pierre Mortier’s map from 1700 (Entry 1000), with changes to the title, attribution, and language. This map is completely in French rather than French and Dutch. Atlas de la Bible No. 1. (top right). Glot. Sculp. (lower left). Mlle. Glot. Scrip. (lower right). Issued in: Atlas de la Bible ... Paris, [1770?]. Mlle. Glot. Shirley 622 (Plate 427); Jonathan Potter correspondence.
