Miniature atlas produced by Vrients, who acquired the plates of Ortelius' pocket atlas in 1600. Relief shown pictorially. Index: Table des cartes. Vellum binding. First 6 and last 8 pages blank (included in page description). Atlas ttle appears along tail edge of pages, when book is closed. Gold leafing on page edges. Engraved title page, including image of globe with wrapped text: Contemno, et orno: mente, manu.; colophon; and head-pieces throughout. "Avecque privilege" on title page. Colophon: Clara Ducum series, virtutum gloria maior, vos ornat titulis, et vos ornatis eosdem, vivite longaevis, Alberte, Isabellaque saeclis. "Addition d'aulcunes cartes" includes final 5 maps. Dedication and introductory text. Descriptive text accompanies each map, on facing page. Decorative cartouches, ships, sea monsters. Maps show topography, vegetation, waterways, ports. Plates with maps numbered, except first 3 maps. Map 1 is a celestial chart. Map 2 is a world map in 2 circular hemispheres. Map 3 shows bird's eye view of Escorial, the Royal Palace of Phillip II, King of Spain. Maps 76 and 96 contain descriptive text. Some differences between titles within cartouches and titles above maps. Latin throughout, including map titles.
