Par Mr. Moullart-Sanson Geographe ordin. du Roi. A large double hemisphere world map showing an insular California. Below are six hemispherical projections, one (a polar projection, the second from the right) showing California as a small unlabeled island. These six projections were taken from a 1695 Moullart Sanson map of similar design. The text immediately above the six hemispheres remains the same while the figure numbers and the text below the maps has been added. Note above California on the large map states: “La Californie passe pour pres qu’ Isle, et pour tenir a la Terre Ferme.” A Paris. Ches le Sr. Robert Geographe Ord. du Roy. Sur le Quay de thorloge du Palais. (lower center, between the two large hemispheres). Gilles Robert de Vaugondy succeeded Moullart as Geographer to the King in 1730. 1 (upper right corner).
