Engraved frontispiece, illustrations throughout, including depictions of figures (e.g. "A souldier of Amboina"), architecture (e.g. "The Church of the Cross of Batavia"), plants and animals (e.g. "Living creatures of Malabar," and extensive catalogue of fish) and portrait of "Mr. Jno. Nieuhoff." "Adorned with copper plates, done after the life" and "Translated from the Dutch original" on title page. Introductory text. Descriptive text accompanies maps. Decorative banners and cartouches (including explorers, indigenous figures, cherubs), compass roses, rhumb lines, bar scales, indexes, routes. Maps show topography, vegetation, waterways, shoals, ports. Illustrations of cities, topography, flora, fauna, ships, figures. Maps 2, 3, 13, 18 are city plans.
