First 2 and last 2 pages blank (included in page description). Engraved frontispiece: L'Amerique / F. de Wit excu; and title pages (one for each volume), printed in both black and red. Introductory text. Elaborate illustrations of natural wonders (e.g. waterfalls, volcanos), settlements, architecture, indigenous figures practicing cultural customs (e.g. farming, fishing, feasting, dancing, and in battle), plants and animals, with indexes; depictions of cannibalism throughout. Decorative borders, banners, and cartouches (including indigenous figures and explorers, flora and fauna); compass roses, rhumb lines, bar scales, indexes. Maps show topography, vegetation, waterways, shoals, ports, routes, ships. Descriptive text on some maps, and "Avec privilege." Maps 1 and 2 show California as an island. Maps 1, 2, 25 show equator. Map 2 has pictorial representation of cannibalism. Maps 3, 25 displays routes in the Pacific Ocean. Map 31 features mythical figures (e.g. Poseidon). Maps 7-13, 17, 18, 21, 22, 29, 30, 35-38, 40-57, 61, 66-68, 70-72 are views, some bird's eye. Dutch, Latin, and Italian titles on some maps.
