dressée pour un memoire de Mr. Guettard, par Philippe Buache. Relief shown pictorially. Latitudinal and longitudinal lines. Coordinates approximate and based on Greenwich meridian. 2 bar scales on map, given in "Mille d'Angleterre" and "Lieues de 25 au Degré." Includes legend indicating mineral resources: Explication des caracteres. Shows topography, drainage, shoals, routes. Decorative cartouche. "Collect. Acad. Part. Fr. Tom. XIII, Pl." and "Mem. de l'Ac. Rle. des Sc. 1746. Page 292 Pl. 31" at top right margin. Collector's note: Iceland, British Isles, part of Scandinavia, all of France, parts of Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain are shown. There are 49 characters to indicate minerals. The phrase in upper margin of the maps, " Collect Acad. Part. Fr. Tom. XIII, Pl. " mark this as the second state; the map is otherwise the same as the first state. [This] map first appeared with Guettard's first article on the distribution of metals and minerals and [is] regarded as [one of] the first geological maps. Buache drafted three more mineralogical maps for Guettard all dated 1752: Switzerland; Middle East; Northeastern North America.
